Dear
Brother Knights,
Happy New Year!!!
Well, I am not 6 months early. We have just entered into our New
Fraternal Year of 2010-2011. And, we have had a very successful
year. Because of your efforts, Council #9973 is ranked TENTH in
the State of Louisiana. Gentlemen, you have donated $30,700.00
in charitable contributions for the previous fraternal year 2009-2010.
This represents 75% of our total income for this same time period.
These are some excellent numbers, and they reflect your dedication
to your values as Catholics and our values as Knights of Columbus.
Last month, we had our annual Installation of Officers and Awards
Dinner. Once again, I need to thank Gene and Roni Seroka for handling
the Installation Dinner. Also, thank you needs to go out to Tim
Helbling, Mike Mills and Ronnie Mayeux for arranging the set up
of the Family Life Center. Thank you to the SLY Youth Group for
serving the food, waiting on the tables and the clean up. And,
thank you to Dave Lemaire, in the role of District Deputy, for
installing our officers.
In case you missed it, the Family of the Year is Jean and Karen
Sabathier, and the Knight of the Year is Tim Helbling.
I am very proud of Jean, Karen and Tim. They represent everything
that is good and honorable in the Knights of Columbus.
Both Jean and Karen have worked with the Post Office to receive
and distribute the donated Food Goods from the 'Stamp Out Hunger
Program" for the last 3 years. This food must be sorted by
year, and food type (meat, fruit, sauce, soup, veggie, etc.).
Expired dates must be tossed out. This is a huge undertaking.
Karen coordinates this with St. Luke's Good Sam's Program. This
effort is year round, 52 weeks. Jean and Karen have also been
involved with the Fais Do-Do during the last 4 years. Thank you
Jean and Karen. I am proud to call you Knights.
Tim has been involved with so many aspects for the Knights, I
am sure I will fail to name a lot of them. Tim is a Trustee for
#9973. And as a Trustee, he has worked tirelessly on budgets and
the semi-annual audits. Tim is also our Membership Director. This
past year we installed 16 new members - great job. Tim also helps
out with our Knight Time Newsletter - printing, folding and mailing.
Tim is also on the Board for Eastern St. Tammany Christmas Program
and serves on St. Luke's Stewardship Committee. Tim is a Knight
and I am so lucky he is in #9973. I am proud to call you a Knight.
Finally, I need to thank all of the Knights who helped with the
Habitat for Humanity Home on 6/19/10. They are Cerio DiMarco,
Father Mark Lomax, Joey and Sharon Bouche', Tim Helbling, Paul
Andres, Rhett McCann, Ronnie Mayeux, Charles Roper, Moe Healy
and Al Thonn. Thank you all.
Vivat Jesus
